Go-Ride session update

Last week

Last session, we looked at group riding. We had a kind of three legged race arrangement where two, and then three, people tried to ride whilst holding onto each other, going through narrow gaps and switchback turns. To complete this successfully requires a great deal of communication between the riders which was fun to watch and listen to!

We finished off with a 9 person team pursuit with a peel off, where each team starts off at opposite sides of the circuit and chases the other team down. After each lap, the front rider peels
off, which basically means that some riders have to do 9 laps. This was a very close run contest but I am pleased my team won, albeit by a whisker! Better luck next week James!

James and I are now selecting a “Rider of the week” in each of our groups starting last session for the rider who we think has impressed us. This is not necessarily about the fastest or strongest, but the most improved, attentive, positive, etc. Beth and Lottie won this so well done to you two!

Race update

Well done to our riders who competed in Round 9 of the Eastern League cyclocross race, held for the first time at Grafham Water. Tom, Holly, Sophie all competed in the U12 category, coming 17th, 21st and 29th respectively. Well done also to Ryan who competed on the full course but was forced to retire after the first lap in what was without doubt a tough course. Hopefully they all enjoyed it. Round 10 is at Fakenham this Sunday (http://www.easterncross.org.uk/race11-12-10.htm) and I know that at least Sophie will be competing again – there is no stopping her now!

Next session

We will meet just the other side of the zipwire from the cafe, since that gives us an element of protection from the elements. Please remember to bring a water based drink and a helmet (although we now do have a few helmets as well if you don’t have one). If this is your first time with James or myself, we will also need a signed parental consent form, copies of which I will bring.

Don’t forget we have been kindly provided with a few 24” wheel bikes by British Cycling so we can cater for a few people that are unable to get their bike to sessions. These are available on a first come first served basis so I would recommend you drop me a line ahead of the session if you would like to take advantage of this.

Going forwards, we will continue to hold these sessions on the first and third Saturday of the month. Therefore, the sessions for the rest of the year will be as follows:
