Go-Ride session update

This Saturday is the third of this term’s Go Ride sessions at Hinchingbrooke.

Last week

Last session, we split into groups again; Atherton (“A”), Boardman (“B”) and Cavendish (“C”). James took A and I worked with B/C. A went for a ride including a very slippery descent, spent some time on the mound and discussed the impact of varying tyre pressures on grip. Once back in the woods, they worked on track stands (Ryan taking the prize for longest track stand) followed by sessioning the ramp (the seesaw set up not to pivot) to replicate inclined north shore. The riders had to stop and balance before proceeding, where Sam shone on balance. A group ended up with racing a tight circuit against the clock including balancing across some very slippery log roll following a torrential downpour that also turned everyone mud coloured! Molly put in the fastest time, only 3/100 of a second ahead of Sophie.

In terms of muddiest rider, it was a draw … between pretty much everyone.

In B/C meanwhile, we had a few starting sprints whilst on our warm up ride, which really showed who had remembered about the importance of gearing choice we discussed last time. Once everyone had sussed the gearing we introduced handicap sprints to make the faster riders work that bit harder. Back in the woods B/C worked on track stands some more and then tried to ride the slippery log roll followed by a tight U turn, working on feathering the pedal strokes to keep balance whilst turning. They then progressed onto the seesaw, showing the importance of looking at where you want to go, not where you don’t!

Rider of the week

Molly and Bea won rider of the week this week; Molly for her lines on the berm and generally super speedy circuit and winning the A race and Bea for persisting with feathering the pedals on a particularly tight circuit.
