Evening TT results

Twenty eight riders braved the conditions and took part in what was probably the hottest time trial in the clubs history with temperatures of over 30 degrees recorded at the 7pm start. For the third time this year the first two places are separated by just a single second. Ken Rolland was fastest with a time of 23.37. Second for the umpteenth time this season but riding a standard road bike without the specialist time trial gadgetry was Jack Burgin in 23.38. Third fastest was Mike Hoy in 23.56.

Quite a few riders shaved a few seconds of their bests however there were a handful of really impressive personnel or season best that deserve a special mention and congratulating! Well done to Terry Cooke (our oldest competitor) who improved by a massive 1m12 and was clearly pleased to be posting sub 30 minute rides again. 15 year old Sean Purser who had the daunting task of starting amongst some of the quickest riders on the night but posted an impressive time and improved by a brilliant 1m11. Dominic Whitehead’s hard work paid off and was another very pleased rider on the night improving by 1m02. Ryan Southwood continues to improve almost every week, and knocked 54s off his best, beating arch rival Chris Maddon for the first time in the process. Julia Wardley-Kershaw is another 15 year old who turns up almost every week and keeps getting quicker, improving by 45s. Also a big seasons best too for Nigel Burns although that was partly due to riding for the first time on a bike with more than one gear!

Congratulations to Berenice on winning a silver medal at the National Triathlon Half Ironman distance recently. Despite often being a little disappointed with her TT times recently, it should be remembered that Berenice is often racing long distance multi events at the weekends and putting in tough training sessions on the week nights before these evening TT’s. I cant think of anyone in the club who trains harder or puts in more effort so it’s great to see the hard work paying off.

Next week there is the choice of riding the usual 10m time trial or pairing up and tackling a slightly longer 15.4m course that tackles Alconbury Hill twice.Hopefully many will take the opportunity to try riding as a 2up on the night, it’s good fun and does make you work harder, although the paring of Ken and Jack might be tough to beat! As usual please email if you require an earlier start time. Whilst we try our best to accommodate requests its not always possible if there are a large number. .

Many thanks to the following who gave up their time to ensure the event ran safely:
Timekeepers & Starters: Mick Butler, Colin Brooker & Dave Pope
Marshals & Helpers: Kevin Cummings, Becky & Paul Gibson (plus their daughter), Steve Purser, Lee Desborough, Jennie Tilliot & Netty Thompson
