Evening TT results

Conditions seemed good on the night with the three quickest riders so far this season all turning up to race. With only seconds separating their fastest times so far this year it was anyone’s guess as to who might come out on top! Congratulations to Luke Hattersley in not only finishing quickest but also setting the fastest ever time on the course by a St Ives rider, just 11 seconds off the course record. Malcolm Smith (who I think might be the only other St Ives to get under 22 mins previously) sets a SB to finish second in 22.04, increasing his lead for the fastest vet on standard category. Jack Burgin was third in 22.24. Well done to Wendy Gooding who set another SB to increase her overall lead in the fastest female category. I guess it’s the luck of the draw but quite a few riders reported being held up at junctions so their times were slightly slower than usual, including Mike Hoy, who not only had to overtake a bunch of cyclists but also the van sat behind them that was struggling to pass!

Others setting seasons best’s on the night included our youngest competitor twelve year old Keelan Purser, Danel Rigby (me!) who regained the family bragging rights, although my brother thinks he can still win them back with a few races left, Steve Butterworth and Francis Sykes. Commiserations to James Warriner, one of our regular rider who season is now over with injury, and our thoughts go out to Tracet Ibbett who is unable to marshal in the coming weeks (so others may get asked to help). We wish both of you a speedy recovery and hope your back on your bikes soon.

Both Berenice and myself were surprised when agreeing to help run these events just how many people were needed to ensure these run efficiently and safely. Thanks to the following who helped on the night:

Timekeepers & Starters: Mick Butler, Colin Brooker, Dave Pope & Netty Thompson
Marshals: Alec Rankin, Chris Digby, Jackie Wren, Andrew Harwin, Jules Hernandez (a new member who is Spanish, bienvenido a nuestro club)  & a gentleman from Magpas (please let me know your name so it can be added to the list). Its always nice to have medical professional on hand just in case, but fortunately this week everyone got around safely.

Just a few reminders: There are three more evening TT’s this season followed by the club hill climb on 9th September, all of which have a 6.45 start time now rather than 7pm to ensure riders finish before it gets dark. Therefore registration is between 5.45 and 6.15 pm. There are some spare numbers are available at the start if you can’t make it to register in time. If you require an earlier start time please email in advance, and I should remind people it is advisable to have a working flashing rear light. If you haven’t ridden these before and want to give it a go just either come along on the night or if you have any questions send an email. Don’t be put off if you haven’t got a time trial bike as most riders use a standard road bike or that you might not be so quick, as it usually takes a few goes to get used to the course and pacing yourself.  Hope to see lots of you next week.
