Evening TT report

How we pulled the evening’s event off was more luck than judgement with the weather. The day was an organiser nightmare with rain forecast in Sawtry on and off all day with a continuous spell between 5-7pm. Following early correspondence with Mike (Hoy), I decided to load all the marshals and rider’s numbers into my mobile and text them. At least everyone was reassured if the event was off, everyone would be given prior notice and I felt this alleviated the pressure quite a bit.

As always, we had a fantastic turnout by the juniors, the group is growing weekly, the only thing that is getting smaller is their times.

We had a good turnout of our Veteran and Senior riders. With the first viewing of Carl Whitwell and Jack Burgin this season. Carl was riding his 60t front ring and rode a 21:25, in view the top end of the course had been resurfaced with dressing recently. Indeed, all the riders rode well, with everyone coming in under the 30-minute barrier.

Good riding by all our female riders and I will include Holly in this group this week, although she is a Juvenile. Wendy rode her usual 110%, while Holly and Jess put in good times.

Well done to all the riders. I had a chance to catch up with most of them at the finish and overall most of them loved the change. The course was in good shape, the rain soon dispersed, surface water was not an issue.

We succeed with our quota of marshals – thanks to you all:

Road Safety and Good Conduct:

  1. Please do not “U” turn in the vicinity of the Start and Finish (i) Firstly it is breach of CTT rules (Riders will be told – if you are a persistent offender you will be Disqualified). (ii) With riders riding up to the start line at speed, there is a high risk of collision.
  2. Will riders please not congregate at the Industrial Estate at the end of the ride – you were creating a hazard to traffic coming-in and out of the junction. Once you have finished your ride and cool down ride, will you please go back to the HQ, if you are going to hang around.
  3. Please remember to shout out your numbers LOUDLY as you go over the line, otherwise there’s a risk you won’t get an accurate time. With several riders piling over the line at once, it’s important that the timekeeepers can assign the correct time to the correct rider! They need to hear you over the din of the A14 truckers!
