Weekend cyclo-cross success

The St Ives CC Go Ride team braved the freezing fog and bitter cold at 3 different cyclocross races over the weekend. A total of 11 juniors raced with 3 of them racing both Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, 7 members of the team raced at Snetterton in Norfolk at the last round of the Eastern Region Cyclocross League. St Ives CC finished 1st and 2nd in the U10 race. Liam Conway, age 9, dominated the race finishing 37 seconds before the next boy. Orla Keena, age 9 showed the boys how it’s done by finishing 2nd overall and 1st U10 girl. Ruby O’Dell, age 7, came 3rd in the U8 girls race. Beatrice Pauley took an early lead and then crashed flying over her handlebars on the 3rd lap. She managed to get back on her bike but has to make do with 2nd U14 girl. Cecilia Hime, age 16, came 3rd in the Junior Womens race. Sapphire Curtis, age 12, came 4th in the U14 girls race. Nathan Gibson, age 15, came 7th in the U16 boys race and Dominic Pauley came 8th in the U12 boys race.

Holly Hoy, age 16, has just joined a new racing team OnForm and this was her first race not sporting the St Ives CC jersey. She had a great race coming 2nd in the junior womens race.

The Eastern League awarded their prizes for the 2016/2017 racing season today. St Ives CC came 5th team overall out of 41 clubs. The overall series placing were as follows. Ruby came 2nd U8 girl, Orla Kenna came 2nd U10 girl, Holly Hoy came 2nd Junior Women, Sapphire Curtis came 3rd U14 girl, Cecilia Hime came 5th Junior Women and Nathan Gibson came 7th in the U16 boys category.

On Saturday, the team took a hat-trick of podiums at round 4 of Muddy Monsters at Ashwell. Max Falkner, age 11, secured another decisive win in the U12 boys category whilst big brother Max Falkner, age 13, came 2nd in the U14 boys category. Ralph Bicknell, age 7, came 3rd in the U8 boys race.

At round 14 of the Central League at the challenging Milton Keynes Bowl course Cecilia Hime, age 16, proved again she’s a class act with yet another win in the junior womens race. Liam Conway, age 9, secured 4th place in the U10 boys race, whilst team mate Dominic Pauley, age 10, came 6th in the U12 boys race.
