Time Trials – Starting Wednesday 24 May

The Wednesday evening 10 mile time trials will be starting again on 24 May. These are friendly events which are open to all club members. We hope as many members as possible come and try time trialling or ride out and support those who are. For those not familiar with time trialling, it’s the simplest form of bike racing with riders starting individually at separate one minute intervals and racing against the clock. The idea is to complete the course in the quickest time, hopefully getting faster as the season goes on. No specialist equipment is required and whilst some members ride time trail bikes many use their standard road bikes. Points are awarded for finishing position and if over 40 also against an age specific time, allowing riders of different ages to compete fairly, which count towards various club trophies at the end of the year.

  • Course is the NX10 as used during the last couple of seasons. Under 18s are very welcome but should either familiarise themselves with the course by riding in advance, or preferably ride their first TT with an accompanying adult (let me know in advance if you require a club member to assist).Course details attached.
  • HQ is Sawtry Pavilion, Greenfields Playing Fields, Straight Drove, Sawtry, PE28 5XP (located off the old A1 behind Wilsons and East Anglia Galvanising factories).
  • Registration is between 6.00 and 6.30pm, with the first rider off at 7.00pm. The cost is £3 for St Ives club members and £4 for non members. Some spare numbers will be available at the start for those wishing to race but who are unable to get there before 6.30, but please present yourselves at the start no later than 7.10pm.
  • Riders aged under 18 will need a signed parental consent form for Club Events before being allowed to race. Forms will be available on the night if being accompanied by parents or can be downloaded and printed off here if riders are unaccompanied by parent/guardian:

  • Anyone wanting an early start time as well as those under 18s should email stivescc.timetrial@gmail.com by 2pm on the day of the race. The club is very grateful for all the marshalling assistance provided by parents, so if your child is racing and your happy to marshal on the night please let me know in advance.
  • A cycle helmet and working flashing rear light are highly advisable. Riders must abide by the highway code at all times and be prepared to slow down and stop at junctions/roundabouts if required. Riders should not race with their heads down and should at all times be looking ahead.
  • Marshals will be emailed separately asking to confirm in advance their attendance.
