Success at the Tour of Cambridgeshire Festival

The Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo Sportive is a UCI World Championships Grand Fondo Qualifier that covers 79.3 miles of closed roads across Cambridgeshire and has 8,000 entrants. The club had 9 riders that have qualified to race for GB in the World Championships in France in September. Roland Ward came 5th in the 50-54 Male age group. Jess Williams came 9th in the 19-34 female age group, Alison Booth came 17th in the 55-59 female age group, Sarah Kelman came 23rd in the 45-49 female age group and Ann Knights came 31st in the 50-54 female age group. Richard Neil came 12th in the 60-64 male age group, Brain Stacey came 26th in the 35-39 male age group, Terry Jones came 61st in the 50-54 male age group and Phil Oxborough came 97th in the 55-59 Male age group.  Neil Elliott came 55th in the 60-64 male age group. He smashed his PB by 30 minutes but narrowly missed out on qualifying by just one place and only 3 seconds.

Tony Cork was the only member of the club to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in the Tour of Cambridgeshire Chrono Individual Time Trial. Tony came 4th in the 70+ male category.  The Chrono is a fully produced, mass participation, time trial run over a sporting circuit of 16.5 miles on fully closed roads. This race had 850 entrants. Jess Williams came 8th in the 19-34 female category and Mike Hoy came 46th in the 45-49 male category.

The club had more success in the Tour Classic event. This is a 56 mile timed ride for cyclists on Pre 1987 bikes.  Tim Philips took 3rd place on the podium .
