Evening Time Trial – 9 May 2018

Considering this is only the second of 19 planned events, there are some really encouraging times with many riders already close to last year’s times, beating them or even setting personal bests. The conditions were slightly better than last week but probably still not quick.

If It’s no surprise to see Tim Phillips winning again, his time certainly was. He won in 22.14 which is about half a minute faster than last seasons best; there are faster times still to come from Tim. The course record for a St Ives CC member, (Luke Hattersley in 21.43?), so it’s possible he could beat that this year! To have one sub 23 ride is unusual but tonight there were two. Second and also riding under 23 minutes was Adrian Beer in 22.57. To put that into context, there was only one ride by a club member on this course in the whole of 2017 that was faster than Adrian’s. Third and continuing to get quicker and quicker each year was Sean Purser in a personal best time of 23.57. Fastest women was Julia Wardley-Kershaw in 29.43.

Well done to Dom and Bea Pauley who both set impressive times for their first TT at just over 30 minutes. That’s nearly 20 mph on a not very fast course and they are only 12 and 14 years old! Riding his first evening TT for a few years was Phil, whose time was all the more impressive considering he rode over 200 miles on Bank Holiday Monday. Dan, Dom W, Martin and Chris all beat last week’s times by some margin. Spare a thought for non member Matt, who punctured after seven miles whilst riding his first event. He was one of three to have mechanical issues and hopefully will be back to try again soon.

Just a reminder that any under 18’s riding must either bring a signed parental consent form or must have parents/guardians sign one on the night otherwise they will not be allowed to race.
