Evening Time Trial – 23 May

Like last week the weather was overcast, windy, cold and not especially quick, so having 23 riders was a good turn out. Descending Woodwalton Hill was a bit scary with the strong crosswinds, especially for those of us either brave or daft enough to ride with deep section or disc wheels.

Tim Philips was fastest, piping Adrian Beer by four seconds, with 23.10 and 23.14 respectively. I think Tim was pleased to get revenge on Adrian, after he (along with Sean Purser) dropped Tim on the final lap of the previous nights chain gang! Third fastest was Charlie Bratt in 24.53. It was great to see more women racing with eight taking part. Wendy Gooding was fastest in 25.55, followed by Jess Williams in 28.18 and Sarah Kelman in 28.37.

14 year old Max was fastest junior male riding a superb 26.28 in his first ever time trial. That’s all the more impressive considering Max is 14 years old and rode the clubs 100 mile reliability ride on Sunday in the A group, averaging 19 mph! Cece Hime was fastest junior women in a PB of 29.25. Its good to see different members giving the TT’s a go with Aron, aged 12 and Glenn aged over 50 also riding for their first TT. Aron was a little unlucky as he had a problem on course. As the season goes on, riders get more familiar with the course, weather improves etc so its not unusual to see times come down significantly. Most should therefore be pleased with their times this week.

At the T junction before Alconbury recycling centre, riders should be prepared to stop if required as traffic approaching from the right has priority, and should remain on the left hand side of the road when turning. Please do not cross the centre line as oncoming cars approach that junction at speed. It is not the marshals responsibility to interfere/stop traffic or highlight if the road is clear. It is your responsibility to abide by the highway code at all times.

Thanks to the following who helped on the night especially Leo Falkner who stepped in at the last minute to push riders off.
