Club Time Trial – 25 July

24 riders took part this week in conditions just below 30 degrees. Adrian Beer set both a personal best and the fastest time of the year. His 22.06 is just a single second faster than Tim’s best and now makes Adrian the third fastest St Ives club member over this course. Tim Phillips was second in 22.39 and Leo Falkner third in 24.23. Jess Williams was the fastest lady in 25.33. Max Falkner was fastest junior with a PB in 24.48 and Cece Hime fastest junior lady in 27.14.
Congratulations to Beth who broke the 30 minute/20mph average barrier for the first time, that’s always a nice milestone to achieve. There were also PBs for Simon and junior riders Nathan, Cameron, Ralf and Lotti. Also hats off to Carolyn who aged over 60 came along and took part in her first ever time trial. Although very nervous at the start she exceeded her own expectations and set a very respectable time. As I’ve said before we try to make these friendly events and are open to anyone to come and try regardless of how fast or slow you think you might be. It takes time to get used to the course and pacing so it’s not unusual for riders’ times to come down over the first few events.
Just a reminder there are six more time trials left (depending on weather). If there are no more cancelations we would  have run 18 events, and therefore a rider’s best 9 events (or less if they haven’t done that many) will count towards the end of year trophies. Unlike this time last year I think most of the trophies are still undecided at this point.
I would also like to thank the supporters at this and other events. There is no booing, spitting, throw cups of coloured liquid, grabbing riders or throwing straw bales in their paths and the local constabulary have not pushed any rider off their bike or inadvertently pepper sprayed them. Whilst we don’t have as many as the Tour ours are much better behaved, but possibly that’s just a cultural thing?
