Club Time Trial – 28 August

What initially appeared to be a very fast evening turned out to be exactly the opposite. Favourable winds on the first half of the course left many riders on schedule for PBs by the time they had crested Spiceland Hill and gone through Monks Wood. However the section from the bottom of Woodwalton Hill was very slow, with riders losing all their time gains and more. In the end almost all riders ended up 40 seconds to a minute slower than usual with some of younger, lighter riders even further off.
Adrian Beer was fastest in 22.37. Paul Schofield was second in 22.56 and probably the closest rider to their PB. Third and fastest veteran was Tim Phillips in 23.24. Fastest junior was Max Falkner in 24.39. Jess Williams was once again fastest female in 25.50 . Becky Summerell was second fastest in 26.39. Holly Hoy riding a TT bike for the first time on the course this year was third and fastest junior female in 27.15.
With everyone finding the conditions slow I’m not sure anyone had a PB. Well done to Dave who was taking part in his first of our TTs. Unfortunately he had an issue on the last part of the course so is a DNF but up until a mile or so to go appeared as through he might have been close to breaking the 24 min barrier.
Next week (5th September) is our final Wednesday TT of the year, and I think we shall look to set the first rider off at 6.45 again so everyone makes it back long before the light fades, therefore registration will be between 5.45 and 6.15pm. I would suggest riders have a flashing rear light whilst warming up and racing. We understand its not always possible for people especially those working or commuting to get there early. If you’re struggling to make registration don’t worry, spare numbers are available at the start or if you email in advance a number can be allocated for you further down the start list. Either see the timekeepers in the car park or ride to the start and collect a number before warming up. With it being the last chance this year to get a PB hopefully the conditions are better than last night and we get a big turnout.
As in previous years the HQ will open for riders and supporters to stay on afterwards for a small social event with drinks and cakes. All members are welcome not just those riding or marshalling, so come and support those racing and join us after. If you have a chance bring some cake or biscuits or even better if you can bake a cake that would be even better (my favourite is Victoria Sponge!). Its just nice to be able to catch up with other members and get feedback. Some of you will know I’m not able to run these next year so the club is looking for someone else to oversee the organisation, although you will get help. If interested or have any questions feel free to drop me an email.
